From Concept to Finish Line: Shooting OPAP’s “The Run Beyond Sight”

Understanding the Concept

As every year, OPAP is the Major Sponsor of the Athens Authentic Marathon and our team is responsible for the visual coverage of the event.
In 2025, however, our approach was different. The goal was not simply to document another sporting event but to tell a story with depth — an experience we often hear about, yet rarely take the time to truly understand.

This year, we ran alongside Marios Sarella, a runner with visual impairment.
Marios made the decision to push past every challenge and take part in the 10km race of the Athens Authentic Marathon 2025. With Michalis Konstantinidis as his guide runner, they experienced the Marathon together — from the starting line to the finish.

OPAP presented us with the core idea, and the objective was clear: to translate this journey with honesty, respect, and narrative consistency. Given the scale of the Marathon and the unpredictable nature of a live event, every decision and every moment carried weight. Any misstep could compromise the integrity of the story.

For that reason, preparation was critical. Our team developed a detailed pre-production plan, accounting for multiple scenarios and potential challenges. In parallel, a full storyboard was created, allowing us to anticipate each key moment and approach the shoot with clarity and intent.

The shoot followed the natural flow of the event: warm-up, start, race, and finish. At the starting point, the team was strategically positioned across different locations to ensure that every essential part of the experience was captured. The environment was demanding and constantly evolving, but our preparation allowed us to operate with precision and confidence, focusing on emotion, reactions, and the human connection throughout the run.

Despite the inherent challenges and limitations of a live event of this scale, the organization and readiness of the team ensured narrative continuity. The final result goes beyond documenting a race — it captures a human story of trust, resilience, and shared effort.
